Exploring Treatment Options
Imani’s journey took him through various treatments. Initially, he explored traditional medical interventions, consulting with multiple doctors who administered various treatments, including the application of steroid injections. Despite these efforts and the hope associated with medical expertise, relief proved elusive, and the persistent nature of AKN continued to impact Imani’s life.
Imani dealt with AKN bumps for almost six years.
A Unique Grooming Approach
In pursuing a solution, Imani also turned to a specialized barber who catered to individuals dealing with AKN. This unique approach represented a blend of medical and grooming expertise, as the barber provided personalized care and even recommended using antibacterial soap for daily scalp maintenance. These tailored efforts did not have a lasting impact either. As the challenges of dealing with AKN persisted, Imani found himself still grappling with the discomfort and limitations imposed by the lesions.
Dr. Sanusi Umar’s Specialized Intervention
At a turning point, Imani sought the expertise of Dr. Sanusi Umar, who graciously took on his case on behalf of the Hair Peace Foundation. Dr. Umar, a dedicated hair and scalp professional, performed a specialized surgery to address the unwanted skin bumps caused by AKN. The Hair Peace Foundation, with its network of expert professionals, facilitated this pro bono case, aiming to provide comprehensive care for Imani to take care of the lesions once and for all.

Imani expressed the transformative impact of the procedure, stating, “It has been a long journey, but I’m glad to be… rid of the lesions on the back of my head and be able to have my lifestyle”. He also mentions that now he can have the hairstyles he wants.
