Our first mission is to extend services to indigent patients suffering from a range of traumatic and disfiguring scalp and hair conditions, including botched hair transplants, traumatic baldness, Scarring alopecias such as Acne Keloidalis Nuchae (AKN), Keloids and keloid-like condition, and more.
Our commitment is to offer holistic care, addressing the unique challenges posed by these conditions and helping individuals regain confidence and well-being. We aim to:
- Provide information on cutting-edge treatments for traumatic hair loss and skin conditions, including AKN and other dermatological concerns.
- Drive research to expand donor sources for hair transplants and advance treatments for skin conditions like AKN.
- Partner with organizations supporting victims of traumatic hair loss, including hospitals and burn units.
- Forge collaborations with entities dedicated to assisting individuals with refractory skin conditions.
Education and Training Initiative
Our second mission is to contribute to the broader medical community by educating and training more doctors and providers. We aim to expand the pool of skilled professionals equipped to handle the unique cases that HPF addresses. We accomplish this through the educational division of HPF – Los Angeles Hair Restoration Courses (LAHRC).
Los Angeles Hair Restoration Courses (LAHRC)
Offering a three-day hands-on live tissue-like cadaver mini-course in the heart of hair transplantation. Attendees experience comprehensive hair transplant training, including hands-on cadaver station practice, live surgery demos, and lectures by world-class faculty. This initiative serves as a gateway for professionals to immerse themselves in the art of hair restoration surgery.
Our Story
The Hair Peace Foundation (HPF) traces its roots back to 2007, when Dr. Sanusi Umar founded the organization. Dr. Umar, a pioneering surgeon, encountered patients with botched hair transplants and severe baldness, often deemed impossible cases due to the lack of donor area on their scalps.
Armed with the unique ability to perform Body Hair Transplants (BHT) during a time when few surgeons could, Dr. Umar recognized an opportunity to help these patients. However, as BHT FUE procedures were costly, many individuals lacked the financial means for the surgeries.
In response, Dr. Umar took on pro bono cases, offering his expertise to those in need.
As a volunteer faculty member at UCLA, he also encountered destitute patients with severe skin conditions like Acne Keloidalis Nuchae (AKN) and aggressive keloids.
Recognizing the need for assistance in these cases as well, he extended pro bono treatments to encompass a broader range of conditions.
Initially focused on traumatic and disfiguring hair loss conditions, the Hair Peace Foundation evolved into a comprehensive resource addressing a spectrum of issues, including hair loss, AKN, keloids, and more.
Driven by a commitment to compassionate care, HPF has become a one-stop destination for individuals facing diverse challenges related to hair and skin health.
